Why were you called to address the conference on human trafficking at the UN?

I studied at Tufts University, which, was well-known for its political science department. All those who studied there were thought to be future candidates for the UN. Everyone thought I would be headed to the UN after my studies, but I landed in films. Anyway, life has come full circle, and now I actually get to work for the UN, even if I am not their employee.

What do you feel can be done to curb trafficking?
It is such an important matter that we all need to talk about it. There is a great need for celebrities to use their visibility and spread awareness about the subject.

Do you think that the common man can do anything to stop this menace?
Yes, definitely! We just have to pay attention around us. There is a great deal that a common man can do. For instance, the domestic help in our house could be someone who is the victim of trafficking, or the vegetables on our plate are sold by someone, who has been brought in from an outside country.
